Eivissa - Ibiza
We are happy that you have joined us at this special place, the Magic
or White island as it is called. Lets begin with the pronunciation of the
island. Ibiza is spelled in Catalunya, Eivissa. This is the Catalan
spelling of the island. E is pronounced as in the English language
EEEE.... BUT v's in Catalan are pronounced like B's and double sssss are
pronounced "tha". Hence the name EBIETHA. We pronounce it like that here
at ibizavillas.com. We began our internet lives on the island where we
lived for 5 years. It is difficult to describe the island as it is so
many different feelings. Mountains and sea are the first thoughts that
come to mind. Wonderful people are certainly the next thought.
The island is about 35 kms long and 15 kms wide. It is covered with
pine trees, and its coastline is cove after cove. These coves as you look
at the map of the island are each distinctive of the other. Each beach
generally has a bar restaurant and different groups of people that use it.
So be sure and see the different beaches as they each have there own
identity. Whether it be the sandy beaches of Salinas or the red cliffs of
the southwest. The Hawaii like beaches of Cala Conta, to the higher
cliffs and mysteries of Punta Galera. Going further North to Portinax where
the Movie "South Pacific" was filmed. Do not miss the beach at Beniras.
Cala San Vicente where diving is considered the best especially around
Tago Mago an island off this northern shore. The freedom of beaches like
Aqua Blanca where clothing is optional and the restaurant there serves
the best sardines on the island.
Traveling south the feeling is of
Northern California especially at one of my favorite bays, Pebble Beach
in the Cala Llonga area. Then coming back around by the golf course and
Roca Llisa to the hills looking down on IBIZA TOWN where the beat
increases and the wonder never ends. This is the island that needs to be
seen and felt.
