Cruising Comfortably: Essentials for Your Ibiza Boat Journey

24 May 24

There are many different ways to explore Ibiza, but Ibiza boat trips are by far the most interesting. And even then, you can choose from multiple options. A private boat tour in Ibiza will give that added sense of luxury to your island adventures, whereas an Ibiza boat cruise shared with others brings more of a sense of community and a shared love for the island.

An Ibiza boat tour allows you to discover parts of the island that you would never be able to get to on foot or by car. Hidden coves, stunning cliffs and bright azure waters await, and with many excursions in Ibiza to choose from, you’ll be able to find the perfect option for you.

To ensure perfect Ibiza boat trips, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide on what to bring and prepare so you can cruise Ibiza with nothing to worry about.

Planning Your Ibiza Boat Trip

Must-Have Essentials

1. Sunscreen and Sun Protection

The Mediterranean sun can be quite intense, and sunburn can quickly ruin your trip. Pack a high-SPF sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Additionally, make sure to bring a wide-brimmed hat and UV-protective sunglasses to shield your face and eyes. Don't forget lip balm with SPF to prevent chapped lips.

2. Appropriate Clothing

Bring light, breathable clothing for the day and a warm layer for when the sun starts to go down. Especially in the early and late season, the heat of the day makes the evening seem much colder, especially if you’re travelling back on a later ferry from Formentera or heading back to port post-sunset. Quick-dry fabrics are ideal as they handle sea spray and water splashes well.

3. Swimwear and Towels

It might sound obvious, but we wanted to make sure nothing was left off of the list! Ibiza's waters are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, so make sure to pack your swimwear. If you choose to wear it to go on your Ibiza boat trip, remember to pack spare clothing for afterwards. Additionally, quick-dry, microfibre towels are handy not just for drying off but also for lounging on the deck or beach if you have a swim stop.

4. Hydration and Snack

Staying hydrated is key, especially during the hot summer. Bring plenty of water, preferably in reusable bottles to reduce plastic waste. As you cruise Ibiza, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got something to snack on too. Consider packing a cool box to help keep your beverages and food fresh, especially for full-day trips. If you want to be hands-off in food preparation, consider grazing boxes or boat picnics from local Ibiza restaurants

Discovering the Waters

5. Snorkelling Equipment

Ibiza's crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkelling. Most private yacht charters or boat rental companies offer free snorkelling equipment, so you can explore the underwater world.

6. Entertainment

Don’t forget the music! If you're renting a luxury yacht for a day out at sea, they’ll more than happily provide the tunes, but if you want to set the tone for your excursion, make a playlist (and make sure it’s downloaded) before you embark on your journey.

Sunset boat tours and group trips will be prepped and ready with the perfect backing track.

Exploring Ibiza's Stunning Coastline

There’s 210 km of beautiful coastline which separates the Mediterranean from the island. There are multiple sea-access-only coves and luxury villa rentals in Ibiza that you wouldn’t get to see if you stayed on land.

7. Visit Hidden Coves and Beaches

Ibiza boasts numerous secluded beaches and coves, perfect for a peaceful escape. Es Portixol and Cala d’en Serra are just a couple of locations you might want to experience.

Not only that, but the famous sunset spots on the island are even more perfect when visited by boat. Cala Conte, Cala Tarida and Cala d’Hort are particularly popular, the latter offering dramatic views of Es Vedra.

8. Get Active on the Water

Want more of an adrenaline rush? Then make sure to engage in various water sports like jet skiing and paddleboarding. Many boat rental companies offer these activities, providing all the necessary equipment. Some private charter companies also have other fun water sports equipment like Sea Bobs and kayaks. Water sports add an exciting element to your boat trip and allow you to explore the coastline from a different perspective.

9. Beachside Dining

Anchor at one of the many beachside restaurants to enjoy fresh seafood and traditional Ibizan dishes. Many restaurants offer a tender service to get you to shore, giving you multiple options for dining.

If you choose to stop at Cala Jondal, you’ll have a variety of restaurants to choose from including Blue Marlin, Yemanja and Tropicana, or head around the corner to Ses Boques, where you’ll find amazing paella, fish and meat dishes.

The food in Ibiza beachside restaurants always has a great mix of seafood, meats and fresh, local ingredients. It

Practical Tips

10. Sustainable Practices

Keeping Ibiza green is important to the island and its residents. Respect the marine environment by not littering and using eco-friendly products. Ibiza’s beauty depends on responsible tourism. Use biodegradable sunscreens, avoid single-use plastics, and make sure to dispose of your rubbish properly at the end of your boat trip. There are multiple recycling points in all of the island’s marinas.

11. Anchoring

If you are chartering and skippering your own boat for the day, learn the best spots to anchor around the island. Make sure you are familiar with the local regulations to protect marine life. Use designated anchoring areas to avoid damaging sensitive seabeds and marine habitats.

The Posidonia fields around Ibiza’s coastline help protect the island, as well as provide a habitat for many species, and the largest between Ibiza and Formentera has been declared a World Heritage by UNESCO

An Ibiza boat trip offers an unparalleled way to experience the island, no matter the time of year. If you’re visiting Ibiza in April or May, you’ll find less crowds and more availability. Thank you in the height of summer, but still experience the beautiful weather. Late season is also a great time to visit, with September and October becoming more and more popular.

By following these tips and ensuring you have all the essentials with you, you'll be well-prepared for an enjoyable and memorable adventure at sea.
